Early Life and Career
Bryson was born Robert Peapo Bryson on April 13, 1951 in Greenville, South Carolina. He began singing at a young age in his church choir, and later attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was during this time that he formed a singing group called 'The Fabulous Five.'
Breakthrough Success
In 1977, he released his first solo album, 'Reaching for the Sky', which was followed by three more albums released in the late 1970s. His breakthrough came in 1982 with the release of his single 'Let the Feeling Flow', which was followed by the hit single 'Feel the Fire' in 1983. The success of these songs helped him achieve mainstream popularity.
Later Career and Achievements
In 1992, Bryson released his album 'Through the Fire' which contained the hit single 'Beauty and the Beast', which he sang as a duet with Celine Dion. This song won him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. His other notable singles include 'If Ever You're In My Arms Again', 'Tonight I Celebrate My Love' and 'Can You Stop The Rain'.
Personal Life
Bryson married his longtime girlfriend Tracey Bryson in 1987. Together they have two children; daughter Freida and son Robert II. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his family.
