Biography
Philip James Bailey is an American singer-songwriter born in Denver, Colorado on May 8th, 1951. He is best known as a founding member of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. As a solo artist he has released a number of solo albums with his most successful being Chinese Wall (1984), which reached No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
Career
Bailey has had a long career as a singer and songwriter. He sang backing vocals for Earth, Wind & Fire from 1972 to 1985 and sang lead vocal on their hits such as “Shining Star” and “Reasons”. He started his solo career in 1983 with the release of his self-titled album which featured duets with Phil Collins and Phil Lynott. His 1984 album Chinese Wall was certified platinum and featured his biggest hit single “Easy Lover” with Phil Collins. He also collaborated with artists such as Little Richard, Nelly, George Duke, Carlos Santana, and more.

Bailey has been nominated for a number of awards including Grammy Awards for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group (for “Easy Lover”) and Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group (for “Reasons”). He won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for his collaboration with Take 6 on their album So Much 2 Say (1996).
