The Red Hot Chili Peppers The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. The group consists of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, bassist Flea, drummer Chad Smith and guitarist John Frusciante. The band has gone through several line-up changes over the years, with Frusciante and Smith being the only two members to remain in the group since its formation. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have released 11 studio albums and won seven Grammy Awards. They are one of the best-selling bands of all time, having sold over 80 million records worldwide. Early Years The Red Hot Chili Peppers started out as a funk-rock outfit in the early 1980s. Their first album, entitled “The Red Hot Chili Peppers” was released in 1984 and featured the hit single “Get Up and Jump”. Over the next few years, the band released three more albums: “Freaky Styley” (1985), “The Uplift Mofo Party Plan” (1987) and “Mother’s Milk” (1989). All these albums featured a blend of funk and rap, with punk influences. Mainstream Success The Red Hot Chili Peppers achieved mainstream success with their fifth album, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” (1991). This album was produced by Rick Rubin and featured the hits “Give It Away” and “Under the Bridge”. The album became their first to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The band then released four more studio albums: “One Hot Minute” (1995), “Californication” (1999), “By the Way” (2002) and “Stadium Arcadium” (2006). Recent Years In 2007, John Frusciante left the band and was replaced by guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. The new line-up released two albums: “I’m With You” (2011) and “The Getaway” (2016). In 2019, John Frusciante returned to the band and they released their latest album, “Mother's Milk 2020”. The Red Hot Chili Peppers continue to tour extensively and have become one of the most influential rock bands of all time.
