About Rivermaya

Rivermaya is a Filipino rock band formed in Manila in 1994. The original line-up, composed of Rico Blanco, Mark Escueta, Mike Elgar, Nathan Azarcon, and Jason Santiago lasted until 2007. Since then, the band has had numerous lineup changes. Currently, the band is composed of Jose Mari Avellana, Mark Escueta, Mike Elgar, Nathan Azarcon, and Ryan Peralta.

Style & Influences

Rivermaya's style of music encompasses a range of genres including alternative rock, pop rock and folk rock. The band's sound has been frequently compared to that of the British alternative rock bands Radiohead and Coldplay. The band's lyrical themes often touch on love and longing.

Discography

Rivermaya has released nine albums in total. Their debut album 'Tama Ka' was released in 1995 and was followed by 'Tayo Na Lang Dalawa' (1996), 'Tuloy ang Ligaya' (1998), 'Ito ang Agwat' (1999), 'Kamikazee' (2000), 'East River Park' (2002), 'Imaginary Animals' (2005), 'The Definitive Collection' (2009) and 'Unreleased Tracks' (2010).

Rivermaya has collaborated with a number of well-known artists throughout their career such as Sara Bareilles, Jason Mraz, Aiza Seguerra and Parokya ni Edgar. They have also lent their talents to numerous film soundtracks including those for the films ‘Bata Bata Paano Ka Ginawa’ and ‘Anak’.

Rivermaya achieved widespread commercial success in the Philippines throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Their songs have been featured heavily on local radio stations and their albums have achieved gold and platinum status in the country. The band continues to tour regularly throughout the Philippines.
