Who is Selah Sue?

Selah Sue is a Belgian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Leefdaal. Born Sanne Putseys in 1988, she released her debut EP - Black Part Love - in 2009. Her first full-length album, Selah Sue, was released in 2011 and spawned the hit single “Raggamuffin”. Since then, she has released two studio albums - Reason (2015) and The Wave (2018) - and worked with numerous high-profile artists including Pharrell Williams and Major Lazer.

Early Life & Career

Selah Sue was born in Leefdaal, Belgium, to a Dutch father and an African mother. She began playing music at the age of 15, when she taught herself guitar while recovering from a serious illness. She soon began performing at open mic nights around Brussels and was quickly signed to Because Music. In 2009, she released her debut EP Black Part Love on the label. Her self-titled debut album followed in 2011, reaching number 2 on the Belgian Albums Chart.

Major Success

In 2012, Selah Sue won the European Border Breakers Award for her success abroad. She also collaborated with numerous high-profile artists including Pharrell Williams (“I'm Your Baby Tonight”), Major Lazer (“Light It Up Remix”) and Snoop Dogg (“Rise Up”). In 2015, she released her second studio album Reason, which reached number 4 on the Belgian Albums Chart and spawned the singles “Alone” and “Together”. In 2018, she released her third studio album The Wave which included the singles “Always Home”, “Linger Longer” and “Fading Out”.

Awards & Achievements

Throughout her career, Selah Sue has won numerous awards including the European Border Breakers Award (2012), 3FM Awards for Best Solo Artist (2012) and Most Spinned Artist (2013) as well as TMF Awards for Best Female Artist Belgium & Luxembourg (2013). She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album (2015) and two MTV Europe Music Awards (2013 & 2014).}
