Who is Seven Lions?

Seven Lions is the stage name of Jeff Montalvo, an American electronic music producer, remixer and DJ from Santa Barbara, California. He has released four extended plays and a studio album under his label Ophelia Records. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the EDM scene such as Tritonal, Kill The Noise, Tove Lo and Myon & Shane 54.

Early Life

Jeff Montalvo was born on March 31st, 1985 in Santa Barbara, California. As a child he was influenced by bands like Tool and Nine Inch Nails. Music was always an important part of his life and he started producing at the age of 16. He attended the University of California Santa Barbara where he studied business law and production.

Career

Montalvo began releasing music under the alias “Seven Lions” in 2010. His first single “The Truth” was released on Visceral Records in 2011 to positive reviews. He then released a series of EPs including Polarize (2011), Days to Come (2012), Worlds Apart (2014) and Creation (2016). His debut studio album “Start Again” was released in 2017 to critical acclaim. He has since collaborated with some of the biggest names in EDM including Tritonal, Kill The Noise, Tove Lo and Myon & Shane 54.

Style & Influences

Montalvo’s music combines elements from dubstep, trance, progressive house and electro house. He has stated that his biggest influences are Porter Robinson and Deadmau5. He is known for his melodic sound which has been described as ‘cinematic’.
