Simpson Ahuevo was born and raised in Mexico City. His father was an engineer who worked as a contractor for the government and his mother was a homemaker. Growing up, Simpson was exposed to a variety of different musical genres, from traditional Mexican folk music to rap, reggaeton, and even jazz. His love for music began at an early age when he started playing drums for various bands in the area.
Career Beginnings
In 2002, Simpson Ahuevo began his career as a rapper by forming a group called Los Pobres with some friends. The group released several mixtapes and performed at local venues throughout Mexico City. In 2010, Simpson decided to go solo and released his debut album En La Cima Del Cielo. The album was very well-received by critics and fans alike and helped to establish Simpson as one of the premier rappers in the region.
Mainstream Success
In 2015 Simpson released his second album El Que Busca Encuentra which featured collaborations with some of Latin America's biggest stars. The album charted at number one on the Mexican charts and spawned several hit singles such as “Mi Corazón” and “Soy Yo”, both of which became radio staples throughout Mexico. Simpson's third album Resurrección was released in 2018 and featured more collaborations with some of the biggest stars in Latin America including Bad Bunny and Chocolate MC.
Legacy
Simpson Ahuevo has been credited for helping to popularize trap music in Mexico. His unique blend of rap and traditional Latin American folk music has made him one of the most popular rappers in Mexico. He has also been praised for his activism and his contributions to social causes such as poverty, immigration, and human rights. Simpson is currently working on his fourth studio album which is set to be released in 2020.
