Early Career
Sister Sledge began singing in church and performing around Philadelphia at a young age. In 1972, they released their debut single 'Time Will Tell' on the small Philly Groove label. The single was followed by two more records before signing with Atlantic Records in 1976.
Breakthrough
In 1979, Sister Sledge released their breakthrough album 'We Are Family'. The title track became a massive hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the R&B chart. The album also featured hits like 'He's the Greatest Dancer', 'Lost in Music' and 'Thinking of You'.
