Who is SOLAR (솔라)?

SOLAR (솔라), born Kim Yong Sun, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, actress, and fashion icon. She first gained attention when she was a cast member of MBC’s variety show “We Got Married.” She then released her debut single “It’s So Hot” in 2012. She has subsequently released two successful solo albums, “Dawn” and “Sunny Summer.” SOLAR (솔라) has also collaborated with popular K-pop artists such as EXO, Girls' Generation, and Zion.T.

Early Life

SOLAR (솔라) was born in Seoul on August 21st, 1988. At the age of 15 she auditioned for JYP Entertainment and was accepted as a trainee. She trained for three years before deciding to leave the company to pursue other interests.

Career

In 2012 SOLAR (솔라) made her debut as a solo artist with her single “It’s So Hot.” The song was met with critical acclaim and peaked at number 4 on the Gaon Digital Chart. The following year she released her debut album “Dawn” which peaked at number 8 on the Gaon Album Chart. The lead single from the album, “U&I,” was met with similar success. In 2014 SOLAR (솔라) released her second album “Sunny Summer” which was an even bigger success than her debut album. The lead single from the album, “Spit it Out,” peaked at number 2 on the Gaon Digital Chart. SOLAR (솔라) has also collaborated with several popular K-pop artists such as EXO, Girls' Generation, and Zion.T.

Personal Life

SOLAR (솔라) is currently single and lives in Seoul with her brother and mother. In her spare time she enjoys shopping and playing golf. She is also an avid fan of fashion and often posts pictures of her outfits on social media. She is currently studying fashion design at university.
