Who is Styx?
Styx is an American rock band formed in 1972 in Chicago, Illinois. The band is best known for their hit singles “Lady”, “Babe”, “Come Sail Away” and “Mr. Roboto”. The original line-up consisted of Dennis DeYoung on vocals and keyboards, Chuck and John Panozzo on bass and drums respectively, James Young on guitars and Tommy Shaw on guitars and vocals.
Career Highlights
Their debut album Styx was released in 1972 and was moderately successful. Their second album The Serpent Is Rising (1973) marked the beginning of their commercial success and soon enough, the band was enjoying regular airplay on radio stations around the country. By 1975 the band had achieved national recognition with their album Equinox. The album contained their first top-ten hit “Lorelei”. In 1977 they released their fourth album The Grand Illusion which contained their hit single “Come Sail Away” which was a massive success.
Recent Years
The band has continued to tour and release albums throughout the years. In 2015 they released their fifteenth studio album titled The Mission which went on to become their highest charting album in over thirty years. Their latest album The Mission: Live in Manchester was released in 2018. Throughout their career they have toured extensively with other artists such as The Tubes, Don Felder and The Zombies.
