Who is Sub Focus?
Sub Focus is a British Electronic Music Producer and DJ, born Nicholas Douwma in 1979. He is considered one of the most successful artists in the drum and bass scene, having released several albums and EPs since 2003. His tracks have topped the UK Singles Chart and have been featured on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and 6 Music.
Career Overview
Douwma first started making music in his bedroom as a teenager, having been inspired by artists such as Roni Size, LTJ Bukem and Fabio. His first release came in 2003 on Ram Records under the name ‘Sub Focus’. This was followed by a series of successful releases over the next few years. In 2007 he released his debut album ‘Sub Focus’ which featured singles such as ‘Airplane’ and ‘X-Ray’. He also collaborated with other artists such as Chase & Status, Wilkinson, and Rudimental. In 2011 he released his second album ‘Tidal Wave’ which featured singles such as ‘Endorphins’ featuring Alex Clare and ‘Tidal Wave’ featuring Alpines. He also collaborated with acts such as Plan B and Rak-Su. In 2014 he released his third album ‘Torus’ which featured singles such as ‘Turn Back Time’ featuring Kele Okereke (of Bloc Party) and ‘Safe In Sound’ featuring MNEK.

In 2019 Sub Focus released his fourth studio album ‘Solar System’ which featured singles such as ‘Lingua’ featuring Stylo G and ‘Solar System’ featuring Dimension. He also collaborated with artists such as Wilkinson, Culture Shock and Wilkinson & Dimension. His most recent single is ‘Desire’ featuring MAX which was released in 2020.
