Who is SUGA (슈가)? SUGA, born Min Yoongi, is a South Korean rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer. He debuted as a member of the South Korean boy band BTS in 2013 and has since become one of the most successful and prolific artists in South Korea's modern music industry. He has produced and written songs for many other artists, as well as for BTS, and his solo and collaborative works have earned him numerous awards including the Melon Music Awards, Golden Disk Awards, Mnet Asian Music Awards, and the Gaon Chart Music Awards. His music has gained worldwide attention since the release of his mixtape Agust D in 2016. Early Life SUGA was born on March 9, 1993, in Daegu, South Korea. Growing up in a poor household with his parents and younger brother, he was passionate about music and learned to play the guitar by watching instructional videos online. In 2010, he auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment's trainee program and was accepted soon after. Career In 2013, SUGA debuted as a member of the seven-member South Korean boy band BTS. The group achieved immediate success with their debut single 'No More Dream' and went on to become one of the most successful K-pop groups of all time. In addition to his work with BTS, SUGA began producing solo material in 2016 under the moniker Agust D. His mixtape Agust D was met with critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike and solidified him as one of South Korea's leading rappers.
