Tamia Marilyn Washington Hill, known by her stage name Tamia, is a Canadian singer, songwriter and actress. Her career began in 1994 when she released her first album, Tamia. The album was certified gold in Canada and earned her two Juno Award nominations. Since then, Tamia has released seven studio albums and earned numerous awards, including two Grammy Award nominations.Early Life
Tamia was born on May 9th 1975 in Windsor, Ontario. She was raised in Windsor, as well as Detroit and Toronto. When she was 14 years old, Tamia began writing songs and singing in clubs in Toronto. It was during this time that she met Quincy Jones at a Canadian Music Week convention. She signed with Quincy Jones' label Qwest Records at the age of 17 and released her debut album a year later.Career
Tamia's debut album, Tamia, was released in 1994 and earned her two Juno Award nominations. The album features the hit singles 'So Into You' and 'Imagination', which both charted on Billboard Hot 100. Her follow-up album A Nu Day (2000) was certified gold in Canada and featured the hit single 'Stranger In My House'. In 2002, Tamia released her third album More (2002), which earned her an American Music Award nomination for Favorite Female Soul/R&B Artist. In 2004, Tamia released her fourth album Between Friends which featured the hit single 'Officially Missing You'. Her fifth album, Beautiful Surprise (2012), debuted at number 3 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Her sixth studio album Love Life (2015) earned her two Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song for 'Sandwich and Go'. Her seventh studio album Passion Like Fire (2018) debuted at number 11 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.Collaborations

Tamia married NBA player Grant Hill in 1999. The couple have two daughters together. In 2013, Tamia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis but continues to tour and perform despite her diagnosis.
