The group's original lineup included brothers Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson; their cousin Mike Love; and their friend Al Jardine. The band's early music gained popularity across the United States for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a Southern California youth culture of surfing, cars, and romance. The Beach Boys' rise to fame in the mid-1960s is considered one of the most influential acts of the rock era. Early Years With Brian as the band's main songwriter, producer and leader, the group recorded a string of U.S. Top 10 hits, including “Surfin' USA” (1963), “I Get Around” (1964), “Help Me Rhonda” (1965), “California Girls” (1965) and “Good Vibrations” (1966). The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and continue to tour and record new music to this day. Later Years In later years, they experienced renewed success with the albums “Kokomo” (1988) and “Still Cruisin'” (1989). During this period, the band collaborated with numerous other artists, including John Stamos, Brian May, John Cowsill and Blondie Chaplin. After Carl Wilson’s death in 1998 due to lung cancer, the group continued to tour and record with remaining members Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and Al Jardine.
