The Band's History
Tokio Hotel was formed in Magdeburg in 2001 when Bill and Tom Kaulitz answered an ad looking for band members. They were joined by Georg Listing on bass and Gustav Schäfer on drums. After playing local shows throughout Germany and winning a local battle of the bands competition in 2004, the band was signed by Universal Music Group. In 2005 they released their debut album Schrei which went on to sell over 1 million copies in Germany alone. This success allowed them to tour internationally with stops in the US and Japan.
