Tony Yayo is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from South Jamaica, Queens. Born Marvin Bernard on March 31, 1978, he is one of the founding members of the hip hop group G-Unit. His stage name derived from the 1983 film Scarface, with the character Tony Montana referring to himself as 'Tony Yayo.'
Early Career
At the time of his debut in 2002, Tony was signed to 50 Cent's G-Unit Records alongside Lloyd Banks and Young Buck. He released his debut single 'So Seductive' featuring 50 Cent in August 2003, which peaked at number 37 on the Hot 100 chart. This single was followed by a mixtape titled 'Thoughts of a Predicate Felon.' In March 2005, he released his debut studio album 'Thoughts of a Predicate Felon,' which featured appearances from 50 Cent, Mase and Eminem.
Breakthrough Success
In 2007, he released his second studio album 'Godfather of the Ghetto.' The album spawned two singles; 'Pass the Patron' and 'Dope Boy' featuring 50 Cent. It reached number eight on the Billboard 200 albums chart and has since been certified gold by the RIAA. In 2008, he released a third studio album titled 'The Elephant in the Room,' which featured a collaboration with Diddy.
Recent Work
