Who Is Troy Ave?

Troy Ave is an American hip-hop artist from Brooklyn, New York. His real name is Roland Collins, and he is well known for his work on the mixtape Bricks in My Backpack 2. His debut studio album, New York City: The Album was released in 2013, followed by his second album Major Without a Deal in 2015. He is also the founder of the independent record label BSB Records.

Early Life & Career

Roland Collins was born on November 23, 1983 in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City. His parents separated when he was very young so he was raised by his mother. He began rapping and recording music at the age of 15, and soon after changed his stage name to Troy Ave. In 2005, he released his first mixtape, titled I'm Not From Here I'm From Brooklyn. In 2012, Troy Ave released his most successful tape to date, Bricks in My Backpack 2. Following this success, he signed a record deal with Universal Records in 2014.

Career Highlights

In 2013, Troy Ave released his debut studio album titled New York City: The Album. The album featured the singles “Your Style” featuring Lloyd Banks and “Show Me Love” featuring Tony Yayo. The same year he released the single “Doo Doo” which became a hit in the United States and spawned a remix with 50 Cent as well as a video directed by Eif Rivera. In 2015, Troy Ave released his second studio album Major Without a Deal which featured the singles “All About The Money” featuring Young Lito and “Dope Boy” featuring Rick Ross and Styles P.

Personal Life & Legacy

Troy Ave has been involved in several controversies throughout his career. In 2016, he was arrested on attempted murder charges stemming from a shooting at Irving Plaza in New York City during one of his concerts. He was later acquitted of all charges except for weapons possession which he pleaded guilty to. Despite this controversy, Troy Ave continues to be an influential figure in hip-hop who continues to make music and collaborate with other artists.
