Early Life & Career

Twista was born Carl Terrell Mitchell in 1973 on the South Side of Chicago. He began rapping at age 12 and soon developed a reputation as one of the fastest rappers in the city. He was inspired by fellow Chicagoan rapper Kool G Rap and adopted his own version of G Rap's fast-paced flow. In 1992, he released his debut album Runnin' Off at da Mouth under the name Tung Twista. The album was a success, reaching number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

Collaborations & Later Career

In 2004, Twista released his fourth album Kamikaze which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured the hit single “Slow Jamz” with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Twista went on to collaborate with numerous other artists including Keri Hilson, Lil Kim, Mariah Carey, Akon, and R. Kelly. His seventh studio album The Dark Horse was released in 2014 to critical acclaim.
