Who is Wax Motif?

Wax Motif is a Grammy-nominated DJ and producer. He is best known for his deep house and tech house productions. Born Danny Chien, he made his first mark in the music industry with the release of his debut EP “Space Jam” in 2010. Since then he has released numerous EPs, singles and remixes on top labels such as Mad Decent, Dim Mak and Axtone. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as GTA, A-Trak and Torro Torro.

Early Life & Career Beginnings

Wax Motif was born on August 12, 1984 in Los Angeles, California. He started producing music at a young age and slowly began to build a name for himself in the underground music scene. His debut EP “Space Jam” was released in 2010 and received much critical acclaim. The EP featured a number of club bangers including “The Weekend” featuring vocals from singer/songwriter Neoteric. The success of the EP led to Wax Motif being signed to Mad Decent/Jeffree's in 2011.

Rise to Fame

In 2012 Wax Motif released his second EP “Electric Soul” which further cemented his place in the electronic music scene. The EP featured the single “Love Ting” which became an underground anthem in clubs around the world. The success of the EP led to collaborations with major artists such as A-Trak and Torro Torro. In 2016 Wax Motif released his biggest single “Darling” which was featured on Grammy-nominated producer Zedd’s album True Colors. The single was certified gold in the United States and reached #1 on US dance charts.

Recent Work & Tours

In 2017 Wax Motif released his third EP “Trap House” which showcased his production skills across a range of genres including trap and hip-hop. The EP featured collaborations with artists such as Waka Flocka Flame and Juicy J. In 2018 he embarked on a world tour which saw him play at some of the biggest festivals in the world including Tomorrowland and EDC Las Vegas. He has also been involved in projects with brands such as Adidas and Red Bull Music Academy.

Other Ventures

In addition to his music career, Wax Motif has also been involved in other ventures including fashion design, film scoring and consulting work for music companies. In 2019 he established his own record label called Maverick Records which focuses on releasing music from emerging electronic artists. He also serves as an ambassador for the non-profit organization Music Well.
