Who is WONHO?

WONHO (born Lee Ho-seok on March 1, 1991) is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and producer. He rose to fame after appearing on the television show No Mercy in 2015. He was the leader of the now-disbanded K-pop group Monsta X. He debuted in 2019 as a solo artist.

Early Life and Career

WONHO was born in Sanbon-dong, Gunpo City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. He attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul and majored in practical music. In 2013, he started his career as an independent artist and released two solo singles. In 2015, he auditioned for the survival show No Mercy and became part of the 7-member group Monsta X.

Rise to Fame

Monsta X quickly rose to fame in South Korea after their debut in 2015. As a group they released three studio albums, four extended plays, and various singles. They also ventured into Japan with their Japanese album Piece. WONHO left Monsta X in 2019 due to personal reasons but still continues to produce music as a solo artist.

In 2019, WONHO debuted as a solo artist under Highline Entertainment with his EP Love Synonym (#1). He followed up this release with Love Synonym (#2) Right for Us (2020). His music combines elements of EDM, pop, hip-hop, rock, R&B, and funk. His discography also includes several collaborations with other artists such as KSHMR, Steve Aoki and Bibi Bourelly.
