Who is Xatar?

Xatar, born Saddam Ibrahim El-Hassan in 1982, is a German rapper from Berlin who has achieved international fame. He is considered part of the second generation of German hip hop, which started in the 1990s. Xatar is known for his hard-hitting lyrics and political activism. He has released five studio albums and one EP since his debut in 2005.

Early Life

Xatar was born in Berlin to Kurdish parents from Iraq. He grew up in the Charlottenburg district of Berlin and spent much of his childhood playing football. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by hip hop music and began writing and performing his own rap songs at an early age. At the age of 15, he started performing at local clubs and soon gained a following in Germany’s underground rap scene.

Music Career

In 2005, Xatar released his debut album “4 Blocks” which was a critical and commercial success. It peaked at number 5 on the German Albums Chart and spawned several hit singles such as “Digga”, “Ein nach dem anderen”, and “An deiner Seite”. In 2007, he released his second album “Derdo Derdo” which again achieved commercial success. He followed it up with two more successful albums “Nr. 415” (2010) and “Alles oder Nix” (2012). In 2015, he released his fifth album “A.i.d.S” which reached number 2 on the German Albums Chart.

Personal Life

Xatar is an avid football fan and is an active supporter of the German national team. He also participates in social activism campaigns such as the “Stop The War” initiative which calls for an end to violence in Iraq. Xatar is married to singer/songwriter Sarah Zimmermann and they have two children together.

Legacy

Xatar has established himself as one of Germany’s most successful rappers and has achieved international fame through his music. His albums have sold over 500,000 copies worldwide and he has collaborated with several prominent artists such as Eko Fresh, Kool Savas, Bushido, and Haftbefehl amongst others.
