Atlantic Starr is an American R&B/funk and soul music band formed in 1976. The group originally featured lead vocalist and drummer Porter Carroll Jr., guitarists David Lewis and Wayne Lewis, trumpeter Jonathan Lewis, bassist Clifford Archer, keyboardist/saxophonist Joseph Phillips and percussionist Kenneth ""Wally"" Nicholson.
The Early Years of Atlantic Starr
Atlantic Starr released their self-titled debut album in 1978. It included the singles ""Stand Up"", ""Keep It Comin'"" and ""Love Me Down"". Their second album, ""Straight to the Point"", was issued in 1979. The record featured their first Top 10 hit on the R&B chart: ""When Love Calls"".
Rise to Stardom as a Funk/Soul Group
Atlantic Starr's third album, 1980's ""Radiant"", included the singles ""Circles"" and ""Send for Me"". The latter reached number one on the R&B chart and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also became their first gold single. Their fourth album, 1982's ""Brilliance"", included the single ""Secret Lovers"", which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was their first platinum single.
The 90s and Beyond
