Who is Avantasia?

Avantasia is a rock opera project masterminded by German musician Tobias Sammet. It was founded in 1999 and released its first album in 2001. The project is known for its epic story telling and special guest appearances from some of the most renowned metal acts of the world.

Tobias Sammet's Career

Tobias Sammet was born in Fulda, Germany in 1977. He started making music at a very young age and soon became interested in metal music. After playing in several bands during his teenage years, he founded Edguy in 1992, which marked the beginning of his professional career as a musician. In 1999, he started working on Avantasia as a solo project and released the first album The Metal Opera in 2001. Since then, he has released six more albums under the name of Avantasia, with the most recent one being Moonglow released in 2019.

Collaborations

Avantasia is known for its numerous collaborations with other artists. These include Alice Cooper, Sharon den Adel (from Within Temptation), Jørn Lande (from Masterplan), Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween) and many others.
