Bas is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Paris Island, South Carolina. Born Basir Tareef Latif Mahasin on February 2nd, 1990, he rose to prominence after signing to J. Cole's Dreamville Records in 2016.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Bas had a passion for music since his early childhood, and began rapping at the age of 14. After graduating high school he attended Hampton University in Virginia where he studied marketing and digital media. He soon grew frustrated with college and dropped out, returning home to pursue music as a full-time career.
Breakthrough With Dreamville Records
In 2016 Bas signed with J. Cole's Dreamville Records. He released his debut album Last Winter in 2014 to critical acclaim. The album featured guest appearances from fellow Dreamville artists J. Cole and Ari Lennox. His breakout single was 'My N***a Just Made Bail', which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Recent Projects and Collaborations
Bas has since released two more albums, Too High To Riot and Milky Way. Both albums featured collaborations with other artists including The Hics, Moneybagg Yo, and Correy C. In 2019 he released the EP Spilled Milk Vol. 1 with labelmate Ari Lennox.
