The Succes Story of Behemoth
Behemoth: Poland's Premier Extreme Metal Band
Behemoth is a Polish extreme metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. It currently consists of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Nergal, bassist Orion, drummer Inferno and lead guitarist Seth. The band’s style has evolved over the years, beginning with death metal roots, later transitioning to black metal, and most recently to a mix of both genres. Their lyrical themes are based on Satanism, occultism, anti-Christianity and Slavic mythology.
History of Behemoth
Behemoth was formed by Nergal in 1991. The first demo album was recorded in 1994. In 1995, the band released their debut album Grom, which featured elements of black metal and death metal. The following year the band released their second album Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic). This album marked a shift towards more melodic black metal. In 1997, the band released their third album Pandemonic Incantations, which is widely considered to be their breakthrough album. It features a mix of black and death metal, along with some ambient interludes. Over the next few years Behemoth released several more albums and EPs before taking a break in 2004.
Comeback Album: The Apostasy
In 2007 Behemoth returned with their sixth full-length album The Apostasy. The album was well-received by fans and critics alike and marked a return to their original black/death metal sound. The Apostasy also featured some experimental elements such as spoken word passages and acoustic interludes. After touring extensively in support of The Apostasy, Behemoth released their seventh full-length album Evangelion in 2009. Evangelion was even more successful than its predecessor and marked another step forward for the band in terms of songwriting and production.
Recent Years: I Loved You at Your Darkest
In 2018 Behemoth released their eighth studio album I Loved You at Your Darkest. This album was met with widespread critical acclaim and was praised for its combination of extreme metal with anthemic choruses and ambient interludes. Since then the band has continued to tour worldwide, performing at festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Hellfest. They have also collaborated with artists such as Varg Vikernes, Mastodon and Rob Zombie.
