The Succes Story of Blind Melon
Who is Blind Melon?
Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California by vocalist Shannon Hoon, guitarist Rogers Stevens, bassist Brad Smith and drummer Glen Graham. The group's sound is a fusion of blues-based rock, folk rock and psychedelic music with a southern twist. Their breakthrough single, ""No Rain"", became a massive hit in 1993, helping establish them as one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 1990s.
The Band's Early Years
Blind Melon released their self-titled debut album in 1992, which was met with critical acclaim, but failed to have any major chart success. Following the release, Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn joined the group. The group continued to tour in support of the album until Hoon's death in 1995.
Blind Melon's Breakthrough
In 1993, Blind Melon released their second album Soup. The album's lead single ""No Rain"" was an immediate hit, becoming one of the biggest singles of 1993. The song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song helped propel the album to multi-platinum status.
Later Career & Legacy
Following Hoon's death in 1995, the band went on hiatus until 2006 when they reunited with new vocalist Travis Warren. They released two albums in 2007 and 2010 before disbanding again in 2015. Over the course of their career, Blind Melon sold over 3 million albums and had several other hits including ""Change"" and ""Soup"". They remain an influential force in alternative rock today.
