Bloc Party is an English indie rock band that was formed in 1999. The current line-up consists of Kele Okereke (vocals and rhythm guitar), Russell Lissack (lead guitar), Justin Harris (bass guitar and synth) and Louise Bartle (drums). Since the band's formation they have released six studio albums and four EPs. Bloc Party has also collaborated with several other artists such as Remy Banks, Alexis Taylor, Silk City and Mura Masa.
Early Years
Bloc Party was formed in 1999 by four friends – Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes, Kele Okereke, and Matt Tong. After playing several gigs in London's indie music scene, the band released their first single in 2003 titled “She’s Hearing Voices”. This was followed by the release of their debut album Silent Alarm in 2005. Silent Alarm was a major success for Bloc Party – it reached number three on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum. The album’s success also propelled the band to international fame.
Career Highlights
Bloc Party has since released five more albums – A Weekend in the City (2007), Intimacy (2008), Four (2012), Hymns (2016) and Silent Alarm Remixed (2005). They have also collaborated with numerous other artists. The band has headlined several festivals around the world including Coachella Valley Music Festival in California, Glastonbury Festival in England, Reading Festival in England and Fuji Rock Festival in Japan.
