Boy George is an English singer, songwriter, DJ and fashion designer. He is widely known for his work as the lead singer of the pop group Culture Club during the 1980s. Born as George Alan O’Dowd in Bexley, Kent, on June 14th, 1961, Boy George had a childhood passion for music. As a teen, he was a regular attendee of the Blitz Kids club in London.
Rise To Fame
In 1982 Boy George formed the band Culture Club, which became one of the most successful acts of the 1980s. The band released their debut album Kissing to Be Clever in 1982 and their single “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” became a global phenomenon. It stayed at number one in the UK singles chart for four weeks and eventually won the Brit Award for Best British Single. Over the course of the 1980s, Culture Club released several other hit singles including “Karma Chameleon” and “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya”. Alongside the band’s success, Boy George also began to pursue a solo career. In 1987 he released his debut studio album Sold which featured the hit single “Everything I Own”.
Recent Years
In more recent years Boy George has continued to make music and perform live shows. He released his eighth studio album This Is What I Do in 2013. In addition to his musical career Boy George has also become well-known as a DJ and fashion designer. He has designed costumes for Pet Shop Boys and worked as a radio presenter on BBC Radio 2 from 2007 to 2009. Today, Boy George continues to tour worldwide with Culture Club.
