Carla Bruni is an Italian-French singer-songwriter, model, and former First Lady of France. She was born on 23 December 1967 in Turin, Italy. Carla Bruni is well-known for her 2005 self-titled debut album and the 2008 followup Comme Si De Rien N'était. In addition to her music career, she has also served as the official First Lady of France from 2008 to 2012.

Early Life

Carla Bruni was born into a wealthy family in Turin, Italy. Her mother was Marisa Borini and her father was Alberto Bruni Tedeschi. Her mother was a concert pianist and her father was a composer and industrialist. She has two older siblings, Virginio and Francesca. She also has a half sister from her father's previous marriage. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Paris, France.

Career

Carla Bruni began her career as a model at the age of 19. She quickly gained fame for her beauty and appeared on the covers of magazines such as Vogue and Elle. She also worked as an actress in films such as L’Aube à l’envers and Les Morsures de l’aube. She began writing music in the 1990s but it wasn’t until 2001 that she released her first single “Quelqu’un m’a dit” which became an international hit. Her debut album Carla Bruni was released in 2003 and sold over two million copies worldwide. She followed up with her second album Comme Si De Rien N’était in 2008 which earned her four Victoires de la Musique awards in 2009.

Personal Life

Carla Bruni married French President Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008 at the Élysée Palace in Paris. They have one child together, a daughter named Giulia who was born in 2011. Carla is also the stepmother to Nicolas' three sons from his previous marriages. Carla Bruni is known for being outspoken about politics and is an advocate for many causes including animal rights and environmentalism. She has also written several books including Every Head Is Different: An Alphabet of Thinking and Le Temps Qui Reste which was released in 2018.
