Cheap Trick - the Iconic American Rock Band

Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, formed in 1974. The band consists of vocalist Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Daxx Nielsen. The group achieved mainstream success with their classic singles “I Want You to Want Me” and “Surrender”. Since then, Cheap Trick has become one of America’s most iconic rock bands.

Early Years

Cheap Trick was formed in 1974 by Rick Nielsen and vocalist Randy “Xeno” Hogan. After Hogan left the group in 1975, Robin Zander joined as the lead singer and Tom Petersson replaced Hogan on bass. The band began making a name for themselves as an energetic live act in the Chicago area and released their self-titled debut album in 1977.

Mainstream Success

Cheap Trick went on to release several more albums throughout the late ‘70s and early ‘80s including Heaven Tonight (1978), Dream Police (1979) and All Shook Up (1980). But it was their fourth album, At Budokan (1979), that catapulted them to mainstream success. The album featured two of their biggest hits: “I Want You To Want Me” and “Surrender”.

Later Years

Cheap Trick continued to release albums throughout the late ‘80s and early ‘90s such as Lap Of Luxury (1988) and Woke Up With A Monster (1994). In recent years, they have collaborated with other legendary artists such as John Lennon, Garth Hudson and Bun E. Carlos. The band is still actively touring today and continues to be a major influence on modern rock music. Cheap Trick is without a doubt one of America’s most iconic rock bands.
