Chip (born Jahmaal Noel Fyffe on 26 November 1988) is an English rapper and songwriter from Tottenham, North London. He first gained recognition in 2005 after winning the UK freestyle championships; he subsequently released his debut album I Am Chipmunk in 2009. The album spawned four UK top-10 singles including the chart-topping Oopsy Daisy.
Early Life and Career
Chip was born to parents of Jamaican descent in Tottenham. He attended Gladesmore Community School and then went on to pursue a career in music. He began rapping at the age of 11 and in 2005 won the UK freestyle championships. His first solo release was a mixtape entitled League of My Own, which received positive reviews and led to him signing with Jive Records.
Breakthrough with I Am Chipmunk
In 2009, Chip released his debut album I Am Chipmunk which debuted at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. The album spawned four UK top-10 singles including the chart-topping Oopsy Daisy which featured vocals from Mr Hudson. The single went on to become one of the biggest-selling songs of 2009 in the UK.
Subsequent Releases and Featurings
Chip has since released two further albums, Transition (2011) and League of My Own II (2016). He has also collaborated with a number of prominent artists including Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy and Tinie Tempah. In 2015 he was featured on the single Lightwork by Wiley which peaked at number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. Chip continues to release new music and tour regularly.
