Corey Todd Taylor is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Most famously, he is the lead vocalist and lyricist of both Slipknot and Stone Sour. He is a part of several other musical projects such as Junk Beer Kidnap Band, Korn, Anthrax, Soulfly, and Apocalyptica. Corey Taylor has also released two solo studio albums: CMFT in 2020 and Seven Deadly Sins in 2011.
Early Life
Corey Taylor was born on December 8th, 1973 in Des Moines, Iowa. He had a difficult childhood due to his parents’ divorce at an early age. At the age of 17, he left home and moved in with a friend’s family. During this time he became a part of several bands and eventually became the lead vocalist of Slipknot in 1997.
Career
Corey Taylor achieved mainstream success with the release of Slipknot’s self-titled debut album in 1999. The group has since released six studio albums with Taylor as their lead vocalist/lyricist. In 2001, Taylor formed Stone Sour with guitarist Jim Root and bassist Shawn Economaki. The band has since released four studio albums with Taylor as their lead vocalist/lyricist. In 2008, Taylor formed a side project band titled Junk Beer Kidnap Band with guitarist Chris Fehn, bassist Shawn Economaki, drummer Joey Jordison and keyboardist Craig Jones. The band released its self-titled album in 2009 and went on tour in support of it.
Solo Work
In 2011, Corey Taylor released his debut solo album Seven Deadly Sins which featured guest appearances from members of Anthrax, Korn, Soulfly and Stone Sour. The album featured a mix of acoustic and heavy metal songs. In 2020, he released his second solo album CMFT which featured guest appearances from members of Guns N' Roses, Disturbed, Steel Panther and more. The album featured a mix of hard rock and heavy metal songs.
Later Life
Despite being successful with both Slipknot and Stone Sour for over two decades now, Corey Taylor still performs solo shows all across the United States on a regular basis. He is also the author of multiple books including Seven Deadly Sins: Settling The Argument Between Born Bad And Damaged Good (2011) and You’re Making Me Hate You (2015). Corey Taylor is also an avid video gamer who streams regularly on Twitch.
