Early Life and Career Beginnings
Diggs was born in Oakland, California to a Jewish father and an African-American mother. He attended Brown University, where he was a member of the comedy troupe Baptist Hospital. After college, he worked as a teacher at Oakland School of the Arts before making his Broadway debut in 2008 with In The Heights. Following that production's success, he went on to originate the roles of Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Hamilton. His performance earned him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

In addition to his acting career, Diggs is a rapper who has collaborated with artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Lin-Manuel Miranda. He released two albums with Rafael Casal under their duo name Clipping., titled Midcity (2013) and Splendor & Misery (2016). In 2019, he released the solo album Small Things to a Giant.
