Ana Cañas is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She has released four solo albums in her 15-year career, receiving critical acclaim for her soulful, upbeat sound. She has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Latin American music, including Marcela Vieira, Tulipa Ruiz, and Jorge Drexler. At 35 years old, she is one of the most influential female artists from Brazil.Early Life and Career
Ana Cañas was born in São Paulo in 1985. Growing up in a musical family, she was surrounded by instruments from a young age. Her parents were both into Brazilian music, introducing her to the likes of Chico Buarque and Gilberto Gil. At age 11, she began playing the guitar and writing her own songs.Cañas recorded her first album in 2006 at the age of 21. Titled “Garganta”, the record featured some of the most influential names in Brazilian music like Carlinhos Brown and Kassin. Her subsequent releases, “A Fábrica do Poema” (2009), “A Flor e o Espinho” (2011) and “Onde Estiver” (2013) showcased her evolution as an artist.
