Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: A Brief Introduction
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC) is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California in 1998. The group consists of Robert Been (vocals, bass guitar), Peter Hayes (guitar, vocals), and Leah Shapiro (drums). The band has released eight studio albums since its formation. Their music has been described as a mix of blues-tinged garage rock, folk-infused psychedelia, and hard-edged Americana.
Early History
In 2001, the group released their debut album B.R.M.C., which featured the singles “Red Eyes and Tears” and “Spread Your Love”. The album was a critical success and earned them comparisons to other alternative rock acts like The Verve and Oasis. The band followed up their debut with Take Them On, On Your Own in 2003. This album featured the hit single “Whatever Happened to My Rock ‘n’ Roll (Punk Song)” and further established BRMC as a major force in alternative rock.
Recent Work
In 2004, BRMC released their third album Howl. This album featured the singles “Ain’t No Easy Way” and “Howl” and earned the band even more critical acclaim. In 2008, the group released their fourth album Baby 81 which featured the single “Weapon of Choice”. This album was the group’s most successful to date, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart. BRMC has since released four more albums, Specter at the Feast (2013), Live in Paris (2016), Wrong Creatures (2018) and Live in London (2019).
