Who is Chila Jatun?
Chila Jatun, born Gustavo Ortega, is a renowned Bolivian folk musician from the city of Cochabamba. He has been recording and performing for over thirty years, and he is now the most iconic figure in Bolivian folk music. He has released numerous albums throughout his career, including Llajta Lliklla, Kuntur Mallku, and Canciones de Amor y Tierra.Early Life and Career Beginnings
Ortega was born in 1957 in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Although his parents were not musicians, they were passionate about traditional Andean music and encouraged their son to pursue his musical dreams. At the age of sixteen, he began performing with local folkloric bands and soon began to make a name for himself around town.
