Born David Brewster Jr. on June 3, 1988, in East Harlem, New York City, Dave East was raised by his mother and grandmother. He grew up listening to Nas, Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z. After high school, he attended Towson University for two years before dropping out to pursue his rap career.Music Career
In 2010, Dave East began releasing mixtapes such as Insomnia, Strictly 4 Da Streets, and The Hated. He then signed to Nas' Mass Appeal Records in 2014 and released his debut EP Black Rose. His first full-length album, Kairi Chanel, was released in 2016 and featured guest appearances from Nas, 2 Chainz, Cam'ron and Fabolous. In 2018, he released his fourth studio album, Paranoia: A True Story, which was followed by his fifth album Survival in 2020.
