Biography

David Marvin Blake, better known as DJ Quik, is a hip-hop artist and producer from Compton, California. He is widely considered one of the most influential producers in West Coast rap history. Born on January 18th in 1970, he quickly became involved in the local rap scene while still attending high school. His first release was the underground classic Quik Is The Name in 1991. His second album Way 2 Fonky was released in 1992. This record established him as one of the most creative and innovative producers on the West Coast and helped to shape the G-funk sound.

Career

Since then, DJ Quik has released a steady stream of music including the hit album Rhythm-al-ism. He has collaborated with a number of West Coast artists including 2nd II None, Kurupt, AMG, Hi-C, and Nate Dogg. He has also served as a producer for Tupac Shakur's All Eyez On Me, Dr. Dre's The Chronic 2001, Jay-Z's The Blueprint, and Snoop Dogg's Tha Last Meal. He has received numerous awards including a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2001.

Personal Life

DJ Quik continues to perform and produce music to this day. A vocal advocate for social justice and police reform, he is an active member of his community and continues to use his platform to bring attention to important causes. In 2019 he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills for his musical achievements and dedication to social justice activism.
