Who is Fayrouz?

Fayrouz is a legendary Lebanese singer, songwriter and actress born as Nouhad Haddad on November 21, 1935 in Beirut. She rose to fame in the 1950s as one of the most influential Arab singers of all time. She is known for her iconic hits such as 'Lebnan Ya Omri', 'Bhebbak Ya Lebnan', 'Ana Min' and many more.

Early Life

Fayrouz's career began when she was 15 years old. She performed as a backup singer in concerts and radio stations in Beirut. During this period, she was discovered by the then-famous composer Halim El Roumi, who helped her launch her professional career.

Career

In 1957, Fayrouz released her first single 'Lebnan Ya Omri', which became an instant hit and propelled her to stardom across the Arab world. The success of this single was followed by many other hit songs such as 'Bhebbak Ya Lebnan', 'Ana Min', 'Ya Habibi Taala' and 'Ya Zalemni'. In 1961, she recorded her first album 'Kifak Inta' with producer Mohammed Flayfel. Over the next few decades, Fayrouz continued to release music with various composers and producers, collaborating with several prestigious Arab musicians such as Marcel Khalife and Fairuz.

Awards

Throughout her career, Fayrouz has been honored with numerous awards including the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 1982, the Order of Merit of the Republic of Lebanon in 1988, the Lebanese National Order of Merit in 2009 and many more. She has also been nominated for several international awards such as Best Middle Eastern/Northern African Artist at the World Music Awards in 2006.
