Early Life
Born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1991, Govana spent much of his childhood in the inner-city community of Waterhouse. Growing up in a tumultuous environment, he was exposed to poverty, crime and violence from an early age. Despite this, Govana was able to find solace in music, which became an outlet for him to express himself. He began writing lyrics as a way to cope with the difficulties of his surroundings and soon developed a talent for crafting wordplay.
Musical Career
In 2013, Govana released his debut single 'Gyal Clown' on the popular Kingston-based label 'Juke Boxx'. The song was an immediate hit and quickly gained traction on radio stations and in sound systems across Jamaica. After its success, he went on to release several more singles including 'Body Good', 'Pon Mi', 'Blessed' and 'Weh We A Guh Do'. In 2018, Govana released his debut EP 'Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same', which featured 11 tracks that explored the realities of life in Jamaica. The EP was met with critical acclaim and earned him a nomination for Best Reggae Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Govana has collaborated with some of Jamaica's biggest stars including Koffee, Agent Sasco and Teejay. He has also been featured on tracks with Major Lazer, Shaggy and Sean Paul. His most recent collaboration is with fellow Jamaican star Busy Signal for their 2019 single 'Money'.
