Early Life and Career
Iyer was born and raised in Mumbai, India. She began her musical journey at a very young age, learning classical vocal music from her father, who was a vocalist and composer. After completing her schooling, she went on to pursue a degree in commerce and then went on to do a course in advertising. She soon found herself drawn towards music again, and started taking vocal lessons from renowned Carnatic vocalist Smt. Shashikala Kaikini.
Breakthrough
It was in 2007 when Iyer got her first big break when she was approached by renowned composer AR Rahman to lend her voice for his song ‘Kadhal Anukkal’ from the movie Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. Her soulful rendition of the song instantly won her accolades from both critics and fans alike. Following this success, she went on to work with other big names such as Shankar Mahadevan and A. R. Rehman over the years.
