Biography

IDLES is a British punk rock band formed in Bristol in 2009. The current line-up consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Adam Devonshire (bass), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Jon Beavis (drums) and Devonte Hynes (guitar). Their sound has been described as “a mix of post-punk and hardcore punk with elements of British folk music”.

Beginnings

The band released their debut album 'Brutalism' in 2017 to critical acclaim. It was followed by 'Joy as an Act of Resistance' in 2018, which reached number 5 in the UK Albums Chart. The band have also released several EPs, including 'Meat EP' (2015) and 'Mother EP' (2020).

Style and Influences

The band's sound has been influenced by a range of genres, including punk, post-punk, hardcore punk, British folk music and even hip-hop. They have cited The Clash, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, The Specials and Joy Division as some of their biggest influences.
