Who Are In Flames?

The Early Years
In Flames was formed in 1990 by guitarist Jesper Strömblad. His intention was to mix the sound of heavy metal with Swedish folk music. The band went through several line up changes before settling on the current members. The band's first album, Lunar Strain, was released in 1994 and featured a much softer sound than their later releases. Their second album, Subterranean, featured a much heavier sound and helped to establish In Flames as one of the pioneers of melodic death metal.
Rise to Fame
In Flames rose to fame in 1998 with their third album, Whoracle. The album saw a continuation of the band's heavier sound and featured some of their most iconic songs such as “Jotun” and “Gyroscope”. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike and helped to cement In Flames' place in the heavy metal world. The band's fourth album, Colony, saw a slight change in direction as they experimented with more electronic sounds and elements. Despite this change, the album was still well-received and featured some of their most popular songs such as “Embody the Invisible” and “Ordinary Story”.
Recent Work
In Flames have continued to release albums over the years, including their most recent effort I, The Mask in 2019. The album saw a return to their heavier sound and featured some of their most iconic songs such as “I Am Above” and “Call My Name”.
