KONGOS is a South African rock band composed of four brothers: Dylan, Jesse, Daniel and Johnny Kongos. The band was founded in 2007 and has released several albums. They are best known for their #1 single “Come With Me Now” and their popular album Lunatic.

Biography

The four brothers were born in London to John and Tess Kongos. John was a South African musician who had moved to London to pursue his music career. The family moved to Johannesburg when the boys were young. Dylan, Jesse, Daniel and Johnny all grew up playing music together and performing in their father’s band. In 2007, the four brothers decided to form their own band, KONGOS. They released their first album in 2011. The album gained some traction and the single “Come With Me Now” became a radio hit, reaching #1 on the US Alternative Songs chart in 2014.

Music Style and Influences

KONGOS’ music style is a mix of alternative rock and folk-rock. Their lyrics often focus on social issues and personal struggles. Their sound has been compared to that of Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire and Of Monsters and Men. They have also cited bands like Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin as influences.

KONGOS has released three albums: Lunatic (2014), Egomaniac (2016) and 1929 (2019). They have also released several singles such as “Come With Me Now”, “Take It From Me”, “I Want It Free” and “I Don't Mind”. KONGOS is currently working on their fourth studio album which is scheduled for release in 2021.
