Who is La India?

La India is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter and actress whose career has spanned more than three decades. She is best known for her salsa and Latin Pop songs, such as “Volveré,” “Ese Hombre,” and “Desde Que Tu No Estas.”

Early Life and Career Beginnings

La India was born Linda Viera Caballero in New York City in 1972. She spent her early childhood in the Bronx before moving to Puerto Rico with her family at age 11. It was during this time that she began to develop an interest in music, taking up singing and learning to play the guitar. As a teenager she performed at local clubs, eventually catching the attention of record producers.

Breakthrough Success

La India officially launched her music career in 1991 with the release of her debut album, Llego La India Via Eddie Palmieri. The album was a hit and earned her a Grammy nomination. She went on to release several successful albums throughout the 1990s which spawned numerous hit singles, including “Volveré” and “Ese Hombre.”

Collaborations and Acting

Throughout her career, La India has collaborated with many other Latin music stars, including Marc Anthony, Victor Manuelle, and Gloria Estefan. In addition to her music career, La India has also appeared in several films and television series. Her acting credits include roles on soap operas such as Marielena and Al Diablo con Los Guapos.

Continued Success

In the 2000s, La India continued to stay active in the Latin music industry. She released a number of successful albums, including Unica, Todo Lo Que Soy, and Asi Soy Yo. Her most recent album is 2010’s Eternamente Romantica. In recent years she has appeared as a judge on the singing competition show Idol Puerto Rico. La India continues to tour extensively across Latin America and beyond.
