Introduction

Lady Zamar is a 26-year-old South African singer, songwriter and performer. She has released three albums 'King Zamar' (2017), 'Monarch' (2019) and 'Dragons' (2020). Lady Zamar has collaborated with many artists including Da L.E.S, Rowlene, Kwesta, Sun-EL Musician and Mlindo The Vocalist. Her music is inspired by jazz, neo-soul and afro-pop.

The Early Years

Born Yamikani Banda in 1994, Lady Zamar grew up in Pretoria, South Africa and was raised by her grandmother. She was heavily influenced by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Aretha Franklin which motivated her to pursue music at a young age. At age 15 she began to write her own music and was soon performing it live.

Breakthrough

In 2017 Lady Zamar released her debut album 'King Zamar', which was met with critical acclaim in South Africa. The album featured the hit single 'My Baby', which topped various radio charts across the country. Later that year she was nominated for three South African Music Awards for Best Female Artist of the Year, Best Newcomer of the Year and Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album of the Year.

Recent Work

In 2019 Lady Zamar released her sophomore album 'Monarch'. The album featured the lead singles 'Joy' and 'Collide' which both topped radio charts in South Africa. In 2020, Lady Zamar released her third album 'Dragons', which included the hit single 'This Is Love'. The single reached number one on iTunes in 9 countries and held its position as the number one most streamed song on Apple Music in South Africa for several months.

Lady Zamar has won numerous awards throughout her career including Best Female Artist of the Year at the South African Music Awards (2017) and Best Pop Album at the Metro FM Music Awards (2019). She has also been nominated for numerous awards including Best Dance Single of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards (2020).}
