Who Is Manchester Orchestra?
Manchester Orchestra is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, Georgia. The group's lineup consists of lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist Andy Hull, bassist Robert McDowell, drummer Tim Very and multi-instrumentalist Andy Prince. Formed in 2004 by Hull and McDowell while they were still in high school, the band has released six studio albums to date and has toured extensively across the United States. Their music is characterized by its melodic hooks, dynamic arrangements and thoughtful lyrics.
Early Years
Manchester Orchestra was formed in 2004 while Hull and McDowell were still in high school. In 2005 they released their debut album I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child on Favorite Gentlemen Recordings which was founded by Hull and McDowell. The album received critical acclaim from critics and fans alike. The band went on to release two more albums on Favorite Gentlemen before signing with Columbia Records in 2009.
Recent Activity
The band has since released four albums on Columbia Records: Mean Everything to Nothing (2009), Simple Math (2011), Cope (2014) and A Black Mile To The Surface (2017). Manchester Orchestra has also collaborated with several other artists such as Kurt Vile, Grouplove and Big Boi. In addition to their studio albums, they have also released several live albums, EPs and limited edition vinyl releases. In 2019 they released their first acoustic album The Million Masks of God which featured acoustic versions of some of their most popular songs. They continue to tour regularly throughout the United States.
