Who is MISIA?

MISIA (Misato Kawai) is a Japanese singer-songwriter from Tokyo, Japan. She has been active in the music industry since 1998 and is best known for her R&B and soul music. In her career, she has released over 22 albums, as well as numerous singles and remixes. MISIA has also contributed as a backing vocalist to various other artists and has collaborated on songs with popular Japanese artists such as Toshinobu Kubota, Kuraki Mai, Hirai Ken, and Yuzu.

MISIA’s career has seen her achieve numerous awards, including being awarded the Grand Prix at the 45th Japan Record Awards in 2003, the Best Artist Award at the 57th Japan Record Awards in 2015, and the 21st Century Icon Award at the 61st Japan Record Awards in 2019. She also holds Guinness World Records for most number one songs on the Japanese Oricon Singles Chart by a female artist with 16 number one singles between 2000 and 2009.
