Who is Mohammed Assaf?
Mohammed Assaf is a Palestinian-Arab singer and songwriter from Gaza, best known for winning the 2013 Arab Idol competition. Born in 1989, he was raised in the Rafah refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. He is also a distinguished UN Goodwill Ambassador for Palestine.
Music Career
Assaf began singing at the age of four. He developed his own style of music, which combines traditional Palestinian music with contemporary Arabic sounds. His first album, “Ala Babi Waef Amarin” (On My Father’s Doorstep), was released in 2013. He has since released several albums including “Deewan Al-Hawa” (The Garden of Love) and “Qamar Bani Hashem” (Moon of the House of God). Assaf has also collaborated with many prominent artists such as Lebanese singer Elissa, Tunisian singer Samira Said, and Jordanian singer Omar Al-Abdallat.
Awards and Recognition
In 2013, Assaf won the Arab Idol competition after receiving the highest number of votes from viewers around the world. His victory was celebrated by millions of people around the world, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who presented him with an award for his achievement.
