Who is Mustafa Al Rubaie?

Mustafa Al Rubaie is an Iraqi singer, songwriter and composer from Baghdad. He is best known for his songs “Ya Habibi”, “Ana” and “Ya Khalli”. He has released three albums: “Al Malouma” (2012), “Tahjil” (2013) and “Taatir” (2015).

Early Life

Mustafa was born in Baghdad in 1991. He was inspired by the sound of the city and its classic music, as well as a variety of styles such as jazz, funk, soul, blues and rap. He started playing the oud at an early age and soon began writing his own songs.

Career

In 2009, Mustafa started performing live in various venues around Baghdad. He quickly gained a following and his first album, “Al Malouma”, was released in 2012. The album included a mix of traditional Arabic folk music with contemporary sounds. His follow-up album, “Tahjil”, was released in 2013 and featured a number of collaborations with prominent Iraqi musicians. In 2015, he released his third album, “Taatir”. The album combined traditional Arab sounds with modern electronic music. He has since collaborated with renowned artists such as Omar Offendum and Shadi Juma. Mustafa has also performed at major festivals in the Middle East including Cairo Jazz Festival and Byblos International Festival.

Awards

Mustafa has won numerous awards for his work, including Best Newcomer at the Arab Music Awards in 2013 and Best Singer at the Iraq Music Awards in 2014. In 2016 he was named Artist of the Year by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture.
